This contribution provides a general overview of key aspects of digital health from a European (European here refers to European Union/EU or European Economic Area/EEA where indicated) perspective, therefore enabling the reader to understand significant issues and ways to address them. Our aim is to deliver a broad understanding of how to obtain valid, current, legal and ethical data within the EEA. We show that ethical, legal, cyber and data securities in the field of digital health are essentially linked. And we discuss how holding a common understanding of intended use and processes in digital health solutions development are essential for gaining public acceptance. We address issues on data integrity, data and cybersecurity, legal framework and ethical considerations, to give a comprehensive range of current topics from a European perspective.
