Author: Brenda Kulhanek

The work of nursing informatics has been integrated into healthcare at many levels, but during the daily process of patient care delivery, informatics efforts often remain unrecognized. As the recent global pandemic dramatically impacted the way that care is delivered around the world, informatics professionals facilitated an unprecedented and rapid advancement in the use of health information technologies. Enabled by the relaxation of policy and regulation, the innovative use of technologies, both new and existing, were rapidly implemented to enhance safety and support healthcare providers. During this time, many stories have emerged that highlight the work of informaticians, which demonstrate innovative changes in the use of applied technologies. Although there are many narratives to share, this chapter presents four unique case studies highlighting the innovative use of technology to support patients, care providers and the healthcare industry during a global pandemic
